Pignut Hickory Soap Dish
Designed to function as beautifully as they look, these handmade wooden soap dishes each feature multiple drain holes to avoid water pooling. However, unlike other soap trays, these Pignut Hickory soap dishes also have built in soap supports that allow your bar soap to dry on all sides, keeping your soap in tip-top shape and helping prevent your soap from sticking to the dish. And it's no coincidence that they are the perfect size to hold a bar of your favorite craft beer soap!
These wood soap dishes are handcrafted by Indiana artisan Jeff Pass, from a Pignut Hickory tree that fell in Hamilton County during a storm. Carya glabra, known among other nicknames as Pignut Hickory or Swamp Hickory, is a tree native to Indiana. In addition to supplying a sizable portion of the diet of local wildlife, Pignut Hickory trees provide wood that is known for being tough, hard, and heavy, while also being flexible and shock-resistant. In fact, Pignut hickory is stronger than steel, while also being less brittle.
After a series of treatments including drying, cutting, rounding, sanding, and polishing, each of these artisan soap trays is sealed to enhance the naturally occurring water-resistant properties of Pignut Hickory, and to ensure the longevity and beauty of the dish.
Due to their handmade nature and the beautiful patterning of the wood, each Pignut Hickory soap dish is different. There will be slight differences in size, wood grain, color, etc. We think this only adds to their appeal! This listing is for one Pignut Hickory soap tray. Soap not included, but we know where you can buy craft beer soap!
