Beer Holidays in April 2025

Beer Blog Holiday

You know that saying about April showers bringing May flowers? It doesn’t say that they can’t be beer showers.

Here are 6 beer holidays in April to celebrate with a beer shower. Or a shower beer. Whatever.

New Beer’s Eve - Sunday, April 6, 2025

With the knowledge that Prohibition ending at the stroke of midnight, people made plans to celebrate the return of legal alcohol to America. In addition to packing inside and around their local bars, elaborate festivities, including a “Beer Ball”, were planned and held. Given the similarities between these parties and those held on New Year’s Eve, it quickly became known as New Beer’s Eve.

National Beer Day - Monday, April 7, 2025

9 days after he was inaugurated in 1933, President Franklin D. Roosevelt suggested to Congress that legalizing the brewing and sale of beer was “of the highest importance”.

Just over a week later on March 21, the Cullen-Harrison Act (named for the Representative and Senator who introduced the legislation) passed. The following day, President Roosevelt signed it into law, remarking “I think this would be a good time for a beer” about the April 7th effective date.

Also, April 7th 2025 is World Heath Day. Coincidence? You decide.

King Gambrinus Day - Friday, April 11, 2025

The history of King Gambrinus is a little bit hazy, probably because of all of the beer. Believed to be based on a nobleman from between the 1200s and 1300s, Gambrinus is typically pictured as a bearded man holding a beer, with some images depicting him wearing a crown.  Although he is known as The Patron Saint of Beer, King Gambrinus was never actually canonized. There are several explanations as to how he was given this title. In one tale, Gambrinus wins the title of King by winning a keg-moving competition by drinking the beer before moving the barrel. In another, he sold his soul to the Egyptian Gods to learn to brew beer. Still others tell of a man drinking beer for three days and nights, or of a heartbroken man seeking to forget his unrequited love. Although the stories about King Gambrinus vary, they all have one thing in common: beer. So why April 11th? Allegedly it is the king’s birthday!

Saison Day - Thursday, April 17, 2025

Otherwise known as Farmhouse Ale, the Saison beer style has its roots in humble beginnings. First brewed in 19th century southern Belgium, Saisons were brewed by farmers for “les saisonniers”, the local and/or regional field workers, using ingredients they had easily available. With different environments and conditions leading to unique flavor profiles, the name Saison, French for season, fits well in our opinion!

German Beer Day - Wednesday, April 23, 2025

German Beer Day is a beer holiday dedicated to celebrating the contributions that German brewers have made to beer. Why is German Beer Day on April 23? April 23rd, 1516, was the day that Reinheitsgebot went into effect. Also known as the Purity Law, Reinheitsgebot stated that beer could only contain three ingredients: water, barley, and hops. In addition to preventing brewers from buying wheat and inflating bread prices, it also protected those same brewers by protecting them from outside competition by banning the sale of beer from surrounding territories.
